Support the Wellfleet Historical Society

Your gifts will help us launch these exciting projects:

Educational Programs

Discovering Our Treasures – an interactive program for young visitors and their families to explore the Museum’s collection by using Treasure Cards.

School & Outreach Programs – development of rotating thematic displays providing opportunities for school age students, their teachers and families to explore our rich local history.

Art on the Porch – a series of summer programs using different media with historical themes.

Oral History Project

We learn from stories. The Oral History Project will collect and archive personal narratives of Wellfleet’s history from our community. The recorded memories inspire an appreciation of our rich and unique history. The archived interviews will be available to the public for education, research and enjoyment.

Land and Sea Tool Collection

The Land and Sea Tool Collection is a rich resource of implements that reflects Wellfleet’s unique heritage as a coastal farming community. The collection is to be housed in a new room off the East Wing kitchen, and will be dedicated to Curator Emerita Helen Purcell, who vividly remembers the old timers who donated these tools, often when their lives were drawing to a close.

Climate-controlled Vault to Protect Our Cultural Heritage

A vault will offer protection for at-risk documents, papers, books and textiles, now at the mercy of temperature and moisture fluctuations.

Historic Play Production

Cynthia and the Devil, is adapted by Stephen Russell, local resident, actor and playwright from a brief folktale mentioned in the book, The Narrow Land: Folk Chronicles of Old Cape Cod. The play is envisioned as a family entertainment that the whole community can enjoy during the town's 250th anniversary year.
